Particle Flow — Terms of Use

Last updated: October 27, 2026

These terms explain your use of the Particle Flow Android app and its published artwork service. Particle Flow is developed and operated by Riley McKinnon / Internal Waves, based in Alberta, Canada. Questions can be sent to internalwaves1@gmail.com.

Please read these terms before using the app. If you do not agree, do not use the app. These terms supplement the terms of Google Play and other services you choose to use; they do not replace those services' terms or your legal rights.

1. Using Particle Flow

Particle Flow provides interactive particle effects, music-reactive visuals and augmented-reality experiences for supported artwork. Available features depend on your app version, device capabilities, permissions and any purchase you make.

The app is designed mainly for teens and adults and is not directed to children under 13. This describes its intended audience and is separate from its content rating. If you are below the age at which you can enter an agreement where you live, a parent or guardian must review and approve your use and any purchases.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to install and use the app on compatible devices you are entitled to use, subject to these terms and the applicable app-store terms. You may use its creative features for lawful projects, subject to the rights in any artwork, music or other material involved. This permission does not transfer ownership of the app or its assets to you.

2. Free artwork scanning and optional paid features

In Android version 1.1.11, supported artwork scanning is available without a subscription or a Particle Flow account. Camera permission and a compatible augmented-reality device are needed. A connection is needed to obtain new published artwork; successfully cached reference files can support later offline scanning.

Other particle features may require a purchase or subscription, as explained in the app. Buying a CD, print or other physical artwork does not itself purchase a Particle Flow subscription unless a specific offer expressly says so. A subscription does not transfer ownership of the artwork or music you experience through the app.

3. Google Play purchases and subscriptions

Android in-app purchases are processed through Google Play. Before confirming a purchase, review the features included, price, currency, billing period and any offer conditions shown in the app and Google Play purchase screen. These terms do not set a fixed price or promise a free trial.

For an automatically renewing subscription, Google Play charges the applicable renewal price each billing period unless you cancel before renewal. If a free trial or introductory offer is available and you accept it, review when it ends and the price and billing period that follow. Cancel before renewal if you do not want the next charge.

Manage or cancel your subscription through Google Play: open the Play Store, select your profile, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Particle Flow. You can also use Google Play's subscriptions page. Use the Google account that made the purchase. Uninstalling Particle Flow does not cancel a subscription. Cancellation normally stops future renewal, with access continuing for the paid period, subject to refunds and applicable Google Play rules. See Google's cancellation guidance.

Refund requests are handled under Google Play's refund policies and applicable law. Cancellation does not automatically provide a refund. You may also contact us for purchase support; nothing in these terms excludes a refund or other remedy you are legally entitled to receive.

We may change subscription prices to reflect changes in service costs, taxes or the features provided. Any change for existing subscribers will follow Google Play's notice and consent requirements and applicable law. You can cancel before a renewal at a changed price. These terms alone do not authorize an immediate price increase.

If an existing purchase is not recognized, check that you are using the purchasing Google account and contact us for help. Do not assume that a Google Play purchase transfers to another store or platform unless we expressly offer that option.

4. Published artwork and updates

The app can automatically check for published artwork when the scanning scene opens. An artwork update may download reference images, artist details, links and settings selecting effects already included in the app. App software updates are distributed separately through the app store.

The available catalog and individual experiences can change, including when an artist updates an experience or permission to distribute material ends. We do not promise that every artwork or effect will remain available indefinitely. We will respect applicable obligations relating to paid content and purchases.

Recognition depends on the image, print quality, lighting, camera view and device. An image that works on one device may not work equally well on another. Cached artwork may remain available offline, but new downloads, external links and purchase services need connectivity. Removing app storage or uninstalling may remove downloaded references and local settings.

5. Your media and intellectual property

You retain your rights in photos, videos, music and other material you select. You must have the permissions needed for your intended use. Selecting a personal file does not publish it to the artwork catalog or grant us permission to promote it publicly.

The app, its code and supplied visual assets are owned by us or our licensors. Artwork and music may belong to the respective artists or other rights holders. Being able to view artwork, play a song or create a visual effect does not give you permission to reproduce, distribute, sell or publicly perform the underlying artwork or music. Sharing recordings or using material in commercial projects may require separate permission.

Do not redistribute the app or extract and resell its supplied assets. Do not bypass purchase restrictions, interfere with the artwork service or use the app to infringe others' rights. These restrictions do not limit activities that applicable law expressly permits.

6. Privacy, permissions and external links

Our Android Privacy Policy explains camera use, selected media, artwork downloads, purchases, analytics and privacy requests. Permissions can be managed through Android settings; refusing a permission can prevent the related feature from working.

Artist and other external links may open your browser. Those websites have their own terms, privacy practices and purchase arrangements. An external artist purchase is separate from an in-app Google Play purchase. Review the destination before sharing information or paying.

7. Safe use and service availability

Use the camera and visual effects where it is safe to do so. Remain aware of your surroundings and do not use interactive visuals while driving or operating equipment. Stop using an effect if its motion or flashing makes you uncomfortable.

We aim to keep the app and artwork service working, but device differences, maintenance and third-party services can cause interruptions or errors. Keep your own copies of personal media and any files you export. We cannot promise uninterrupted operation or compatibility with every device or future operating-system version.

We may restrict access to our online service when reasonably necessary to address misuse, security problems or legal obligations. Where practical, we will explain a restriction and how to contact us. A service restriction does not itself cancel Google Play billing; manage your subscription through Google Play and contact us about any affected paid access or refund rights.

8. Your legal rights and changes to these terms

Nothing in these terms excludes consumer guarantees, privacy rights or other protections that cannot lawfully be excluded. We remain responsible where applicable law requires it, including for remedies relating to defective or misdescribed services. Your location may give you additional rights.

We may revise these terms when features, payment arrangements or legal requirements change. Revised terms will be posted here with an updated date. We will provide notice of material changes and obtain agreement where required. A change will not remove rights you already have under applicable law or retroactively change a completed purchase.

These terms currently cover the Android app and its artwork service. Separate store terms and any platform-specific terms apply to versions distributed elsewhere. Future platforms or music-distribution services may require additional terms before they launch.
